Post It Note Person

It all begins with an idea and then someone doing something and someone else reacting and so forth.
It’s kind of like a Butterfly Effect of kindness

This is a project focused on Vancouver’s West End neighbourhood and of a single person and their compassion & empathy for strangers. I was already documenting this before the pandemic, I think maybe from 2018/2019.
Then the messages seemed to be incredibly fitting with the times. It started really hitting home for people during times of isolation and distance from loved ones during the pandemic. Then I felt I must document this real moment from a real person in real time.

However my initial spark for this project & realization of it’s importance for me of the post it notes is - Vancouver can be an incredibly lonely city and it has a reputation for it. Having lived their for almost 10 years & been asked about it many times, this is something I can definitely understand why it has the reputation it does.
